Amazon CLF-C02 Exam Prep
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner CLF-C02 (Page 22 )

• A — Consumption-based pricing: AWS generally uses a pay-as-you-go model. You pay for the resources you consume rather than purchasing hardware upfront or paying for unused capacity.
• C — Economies of scale: AWS purchases and operates infrastructure at a very large scale, allowing it to reduce costs and pass some savings to customers through lower service prices.

• Perpetual licenses: These involve paying once for permanent software ownership and are not a primary AWS Cloud economic benefit.
• AWS Enterprise Support at no additional cost: Enterprise Support has an additional charge.
• Bring-your-own-hardware model: AWS provides and manages the underlying cloud infrastructure; customers do not normally bring their own physical servers.

• Standardize which services users can deploy
• Apply governance and access controls
• Manage approved product versions
• Give users self-service access to authorized resources

• AWS Control Tower: Sets up and governs a multi-account AWS environment.
• AWS Cloud Map: Provides service discovery for applications.
• AWS Clean Rooms: Enables privacy-preserving collaboration on data analysis.

• Render thousands of animation frames
• Generate product images in multiple sizes
• Apply filters or transformations to a large image collection
• Produce visual effects for a video

• Scale out during the hours when customer traffic is high.
• Scale in during low-demand periods, reducing instance-hours and cost.
• Use scaling policies based on metrics such as CPU utilization or request count.

• Multiple Availability Zones: Improves availability and fault tolerance, but does not automatically reduce cost.
• Placement group: Helps with specialized performance or low-latency requirements, not cost optimization.
• Private subnets: Improve network security, but do not automatically adjust capacity or reduce EC2 usage costs.

Question 3: AWS Storage Gateway File Gateway

• A: S3 bucket per user — S3 is object storage, not a traditional shared file system; mounting it requires extra tools and is less efficient.
• B: File Gateway — Provides a local file share using standard file protocols while storing files in Amazon S3. This preserves convenient local access and extends storage capacity.
• C: WorkSpaces and WorkDocs — Designed for virtual desktops and document collaboration, not large shared file storage.
• D: EC2 with EBS — EBS is attached to one EC2 instance and is not designed for direct multi-user file sharing.

• Whether a user has a console password
• Password age and last password change
• Whether MFA is enabled
• Access key status
• Access key creation date and last-use information
• Access key age, which helps audit rotation

• IAM Access Analyzer identifies unintended access to resources; it does not report credential age or rotation.
• AWS Artifact provides AWS compliance documents and agreements, not details about your IAM users.
• AWS Audit Manager helps collect evidence for audits, but it is not the direct tool for viewing IAM credential rotation details.

• AWS Budgets lets you create a cost or usage budget and configure alerts when actual or forecasted spending reaches a threshold. Notifications can be sent through email or Amazon SNS.
• Amazon CloudWatch can monitor AWS billing metrics and trigger an alarm when estimated charges exceed a specified amount.

• Amazon SQS is a message queue, not a cost-monitoring service.
• Cost Explorer analyzes spending but does not directly provide threshold notifications.
• AWS Cost and Usage Report delivers detailed billing data for analysis; it does not itself send threshold alerts.

• A is correct: Days beyond the included period incur an extra daily charge.
• D is incorrect: Daily use after 10 days is not free.
• B and C: Data-transfer pricing can depend on the direction and service terms. The exam’s intended distinction is that the included device usage period is the clearly stated no-cost benefit.

• Amazon DynamoDB — Managed NoSQL database, not PostgreSQL.
• Amazon Athena — Serverless service for querying data in S3; intended for analytics, not OLTP.
• Amazon EMR — Managed cluster platform for big-data frameworks such as Hadoop and Spark.

• Amazon S3 — Object storage, not a database.
• Amazon DynamoDB — Fully managed NoSQL key-value and document database.
• Amazon Redshift — Managed data warehouse designed for analytics, not primarily transactional MySQL workloads.

• S3 Lifecycle rules automate actions such as transitioning objects to different storage classes or deleting old objects.
• S3 bucket policies control access permissions; they do not preserve earlier object versions.
• S3 server-side encryption protects data confidentiality by encrypting objects at rest, but it does not prevent deletion or overwriting.

• Accidental deletion or overwriting ? S3 Versioning
• Unauthorized access ? bucket policies and IAM
• Data encryption ? server-side encryption

• A limited lifetime
• Permissions defined by an IAM role or policy
• The ability to access AWS APIs without using long-term IAM user credentials

• Amazon API Gateway — Builds and manages APIs; it does not generally issue AWS credentials for applications.
• IAM users — Usually use long-term credentials, which are less suitable for applications.
• IAM instance profiles — Provide temporary role credentials to applications running on EC2 instances, but are specifically tied to EC2. The broader requirement described is best met by AWS STS.

• Create and manage catalogs of approved IT services
• Govern and publish infrastructure-as-code (IaC) templates, commonly AWS CloudFormation templates
• Control which users can deploy specific products and configurations
• Apply versioning, permissions, and deployment constraints

• AWS Resource Explorer: Searches and discovers AWS resources; it does not govern IaC templates.
• AWS Organizations: Manages multiple AWS accounts, policies, and consolidated billing.
• AWS Systems Manager: Helps operate and manage deployed resources, such as patching and automation, but is not primarily a catalog for governed IaC products.

• Developed and maintained independently
• Deployed without changing the entire application
• Scaled separately based on demand
• More resilient when another service has problems

• A: Functional testing is useful, but it is not the main practice described.
• B: Automation helps deployment, but the scenario focuses on architectural decomposition.
• C: Multiple locations improve availability, not application modularity.

• Correct answer: D — AWS Migration Hub

• AWS Migration Hub provides a single location to track the progress of application migrations. It offers a centralized dashboard to view migration status across multiple tools and projects.

• AWS Application Discovery Service helps inventory and map on-prem applications and their dependencies, not a single progress tracker.
• AWS Application Migration Service (formerly SMS) performs the actual lift-and-shift migrations, but isn’t the centralized tracker itself.
• AWS Service Catalog manages catalogs of IT services for self-service deployment, not migration progress.

• Answer: S3 Inventory report.

• Why: The S3 Inventory report provides a scheduled listing of objects within a bucket, including metadata about each object. When you configure it to include object tagging, you can see tags for each object, and the object keys (which reflect prefixes) and bucket scope are captured in the report. This makes it suitable for auditing and tracking “tags, buckets, and prefixes” across S3 objects.

• What the other options do (not suitable for this purpose):

• Tip: If you need tags in the report, enable the inventory option to include object tagging in the configuration.

• Correct answer: C: Amazon Comprehend.

• Why: The library wants to classify books based on their text content. This is an NLP (natural language processing) task. Amazon Comprehend is AWS’s managed NLP service that can perform content classification (including creating custom classifiers) and extract meaningful information from text. The other services are not focused on text classification:

• Quick note: In practice, you’d store the books in S3, extract text if needed (e.g., from PDFs with Textract), and then use Comprehend to classify the documents into topics or genres.

• Amazon Kendra is a managed enterprise search service that can index content stored in S3 and support natural-language queries to find text inside documents (PDFs, Word files, etc.).

• Rekognition analyzes images/videos, not document text search.
• Polly is a text-to-speech service.
• Lex is a chatbot service.

• Create a Kendra index.
• Add a data source of type S3 and point it to your bucket (with an IAM role that allows access).
• Configure/document conversion if needed, then index the data.
• Use the Kendra API or console to run natural-language queries against your indexed documents.

• The requirement is a fully managed file server that natively supports Microsoft workloads and file systems and uses the SMB protocol. FSx for Windows File Server is built specifically for Windows workloads, provides native SMB file shares, and supports Windows permissions/Active Directory integration.
• Why the others don’t fit:

• Correct answer: S3 Versioning

• Why the other options aren’t suitable for this protection:

• Quick tip: For enhanced protection, enable Versioning (and consider related features like Object Lock for write-once scenarios in specific compliance cases).

• Goal: serving a static website globally with minimal latency.
• Why C works: CloudFront is a Content Delivery Network (CDN) that caches content at many edge locations around the world. When users request the site, CloudFront serves cached copies from the nearest edge location, greatly reducing latency. It also reduces load on your EC2 origin by handling many requests at the edge.
• Why the other options aren’t as good:

• The AWS Support Concierge is a specialized team within Enterprise Support whose primary role is handling billing and account questions and helping with account setup and getting started.
• They are not the source for architecture guidance or development assistance; those services are provided by Technical Account Managers (TAMs) or Solutions Architects as part of Enterprise Support.
• For technical support cases, customers typically interact with AWS Support engineers or the TAMs, not the Concierge. The Concierge may route or coordinate related requests, but they don’t provide the technical resolution.

• What Concierge does: billing and account inquiries, onboarding help, coordination with AWS support.
• What Concierge does not do: provide architecture/design guidance or in-depth technical support case resolutions.

• Correct answer: D) Amazon Aurora Serverless

• Aurora Serverless is serverless, so compute capacity scales automatically and can pause during idle periods. This minimizes ongoing administration and you pay only for actual usage, which is ideal for infrequent workloads.
• PostgreSQL on EC2 requires full OS and DB administration.
• RDS for PostgreSQL is managed but still involves provisioning capacity and some maintenance tasks.
• Aurora PostgreSQL (non-Serverless) is managed but requires you to manage capacity, though with some automation; it’s not as hands-off as Serverless for intermittent usage.

• Amazon Cognito is designed for customer-facing apps to handle user sign-up, sign-in, and access control, and it can federate identities from social providers (Facebook, Google, etc.) or enterprise IdPs via SAML/OpenID Connect.
• You can configure a Cognito User Pool and connect social identity providers, then use tokens (JWT) to authorize backend API calls.

• AWS Directory Service is for connecting your AWS apps to an existing directory (like Active Directory) for enterprise users, not social login for customer apps.
• AWS IAM is for managing access to AWS resources, not end-user authentication for your website.
• AWS IAM Identity Center (AWS SSO) provides SSO for AWS accounts and enterprise apps, not typical social logins for consumer-facing websites.

• Correct answer: D. AWS CloudShell

• Why: AWS CloudShell is a browser-based shell that runs in the AWS Console and uses the current authenticated session. It provides a pre-authenticated, ready-to-use command-line environment directly from the Management Console, with AWS CLI and common tools installed.

• Why the other options aren’t correct:

• Correct answer: C. AWS CloudFormation

• Why: CloudFormation lets you define infrastructure as code via templates (JSON or YAML). You can create a single template that describes multiple AWS resources and reuse it to deploy consistent stacks across environments. Templates can be parameterized and stored for repeated deployments. Other options (Marketplace, AMI, OpsWorks) don’t provide reusable deployment templates in the same way.

• Correct answer: A. Inbound data transfer from the internet

• Why: AWS does not charge for data transferred into AWS from the internet. Inbound data transfer is free, regardless of the amount (in this case, 2 TB). The other options involve data leaving AWS or moving between AWS regions/AZs, which incur costs:

• Why: ADS is designed to collect information about on-premises environments to plan migrations. It inventories details like hostname, IP address, MAC address, OS, hardware, and installed software, plus dependency mappings. This data helps you understand your current environment before moving to AWS.

• How it differs from the other options:

• Practical use: Install the ADS agent on on-prem hosts to collect data, then view the inventory in Migration Hub to inform migration planning and sequencing.

• Correct options: C and D.

• The AWS Cloud Adoption Framework (CAF) security perspective focuses on capabilities to protect information and manage security risk.
• Observability (A) is primarily an operations/monitoring capability, not a core security capability under CAF.
• Incident and problem management (B) is IT service management/operations, not specifically a CAF security capability.
• Incident response (C) is a security-focused capability: detecting, containing, and recovering from security incidents.
• Infrastructure protection (D) involves applying security controls to protect the underlying infrastructure, which fits the security perspective.

• On-Demand: You pay by the hour with no long-term commitment. This is ideal for workloads that are infrequent or have highly variable usage. Since this job runs only 24 hours once per year, you pay only for those 24 hours, with no wasted upfront or long-term payments.
• Reserved Instances: Require a 1- or 3-year commitment and pay for capacity whether you use it or not. For a workload that runs just 24 hours a year, you’d be paying for most of the term unused, making it far less cost-efficient.
• Spot Instances: Can be interrupted whenever AWS needs capacity, which is unacceptable for an uninterruptible workload.
• Dedicated Instances: Generally more expensive and aimed at licensing or compliance requirements; not needed for this use case.

• Answer: A — EC2 Image Builder

• Why: EC2 Image Builder is AWS’s fully managed service designed to automate the creation, testing, and ongoing management of custom EC2 AMIs. It lets you build image pipelines that start from a base image, apply software/components, run tests, and publish/distribute the resulting AMIs across regions or accounts.

• How it works (high level):

• Why not the other options:

• Quick tip: Use EC2 Image Builder to reduce manual image maintenance and drift, and to enforce consistent, tested base images across environments.

• A Storage Gateway File Gateway provides an on-premises NFS/SMB file share that's backed by objects in S3. This is exactly what you need to migrate an NFS workload: applications continue using NFS, while the actual data moves to and is stored in S3.
• It can cache frequently accessed data locally for performance, while uploads go to an S3 bucket.
• Why the other options aren’t suitable:

• Why: If an application on EC2 needs to call other AWS services, using an IAM role (attached to the EC2 instance as an instance profile) provides temporary, automatically rotated credentials. This avoids embedding access keys in the application.
• How it works: Create a role with the minimum required permissions, attach it to the EC2 instance, and let the AWS SDK used by the application retrieve credentials from the instance metadata service. The credentials rotate automatically and are scoped to the policy you define.
• Why not other options:

• The correct option is B: AWS Storage Gateway.

• Why: The scenario requires backing up on-prem data to AWS without changing existing backup workflows. AWS Storage Gateway provides a hybrid storage solution; specifically, the Tape Gateway emulates a physical tape library, allowing your existing backup software to write to virtual tapes that are stored in AWS (in S3 or S3 Glacier). This lets you back up 10 TB to the cloud while preserving current backup workflows and on-prem infrastructure.

• How it would work: Deploy a gateway appliance or VM on-site, connect your tape-based backup software to the virtual tape library, and start writing to virtual tapes. The data is then archived in AWS, freeing up local storage.

• Why the others aren’t suitable:

• Quick tip: If you weren’t using tape, File Gateway could be another option for file-based backups; Tape Gateway is the right pick for tape-based workflows.

• The correct option is A: Data architecture.

• Why: In the AWS CAF, the Platform perspective covers the technical foundation and architecture that enable cloud workloads to run reliably and efficiently. This includes how data is modeled, stored, and accessed across the enterprise—the core of data architecture.

• Quick mapping for the other options:

• Cross-account access is typically implemented with an IAM role. You create a role in the target account (where the resources live) and configure a trust policy that allows principals from the source account to assume that role.
• Users in the source account then assume the role (via Switch Role in the console or STS:AssumeRole) and receive temporary credentials with the role’s permissions to access the resources.

• IAM group: Groups exist inside a single account; they don’t grant cross-account access.
• IAM tag: Tags are metadata and do not grant access.
• IAM Access Analyzer: It analyzes and identifies public or cross-account access but does not grant access itself.

• The Well-Architected Framework has five pillars: Operational Excellence, Security, Reliability, Performance Efficiency, and Cost Optimization.
• Operational Excellence: how you run and improve your systems—monitoring, incident response, and evolving processes.
• Reliability: the ability of a workload to recover from failures, maintain uptime, and scale as demand changes.

• Availability (A) is not a pillar name; it’s an outcome that relates to Reliability.
• Scalability (C) isn’t a pillar name; scalability touches on Performance Efficiency.
• Responsive design (D) is not a pillar in the Well-Architected Framework.

• Sustainability is not a CAF perspective (it's not one of the CAF perspectives).
• Performance efficiency and Reliability are pillars of the AWS Well-Architected Framework, not CAF.
