Which of the following technologies are used to help the people who are physically challenged, disabled, or disadvantaged? Each correct answer represents a part of the solution. Choose all that apply.

  1. Assistive technology
  2. Push technology
  3. Pull technology
  4. Adaptive technology

Answer(s): A,D

Explanation:

Adaptive technology is the name for products which help people who cannot use regular versions of products, primarily people with physical disabilities such as limitations to vision, hearing, and mobility. Adaptive computer technology is helping society through the devices, mechanisms, and software tools. These are designed to assist people who are physically challenged, disabled, or disadvantaged. It promotes greater effectiveness for persons with functional limitations or disabilities by enabling them to perform tasks that they were formerly unable to accomplish, or had great difficulty accomplishing. Adaptive technology provides changed methods of interacting with or enhancements to the technology. Assistive technology (AT) is a generic term that includes assistive, adaptive, and rehabilitative devices for people with disabilities and includes the process used in selecting, locating, and using them. The Technology-Related Assistance for Individuals with Disabilities Act of 1988 (US Public Law 100-407) states that it is 'technology designed to be utilized in an assistive technology device or assistive technology service.' Assistive technology promotes greater independence by enabling people to perform tasks that they were formerly unable to accomplish, or had great difficulty accomplishing, by providing enhancements to or changed methods of interacting with the technology needed to accomplish such tasks.
Answer option C is incorrect. Pull technology is a model of media distribution. In pull technology, content is not updated or refreshed unless the client requests for it. This technology is generally used on the Internet. The advantage of a pull technology solution is that the client is not dependent on the server to refresh content viewed on a browser.
Answer option B is incorrect. Push technology, or server push, describes a style of Internet-based communication where the request for a given transaction is initiated by the publisher or central server. It is contrasted with pull technology, where the request for the transmission of information is initiated by the receiver or client. Push services are often based on information preferences expressed in advance. This is called a publish/subscribe model.
A client might subscribe to various information channels.

Whenever new content is available on one of those channels, the server would push that information out to the user. The BlackBerry was the first popular example of push technology for email in a wireless context.

Which of the following Web browser features allows a user to create and manage a list of frequently visited Websites?

  1. InPrivate Browsing
  2. History
  3. Bookmarks
  4. Cookies

Answer(s): C

Explanation:

User-managed features allowing a user to create and manage a list of frequently visited Websites are called Bookmarks or Favorites.
Answer option D is incorrect. Cookies are mechanisms used by the server side connections to store and retrieve information on the client side of the connection. Cookies are generally cached by the system to improve usability and to prevent the cookies from being sent to the web browser. These will be stored on the system and may be optionally configured when required.
Answer option B is incorrect. The History feature of a Web browser shows the list of visited Websites.

Answer option A is incorrect. InPrivate Browsing is a feature of Internet Explorer 8.
When this feature is active, Internet Explorer does not store history, cookies, temporary Internet files, or other data, thus protecting privacy of the user while using Internet Explorer 8. InPrivate Browsing can be activated by pressing Ctrl+Shift+P. This feature is quite helpful when a user does not want to leave any trace of his Web browsing activity such as, e-mailing at an Internet cafe or shopping for a gift.
